Shanghai Transportation Guide
Located at the center of the mainland's coastline, Shanghai has long been a major hub of communications, transportation, and international exchange. Shanghai has fostered a comprehensive transportation network that incorporates land, sea, and air travel, as well as a convenient urban transportation system. Special tourist trains running between Shanghai and the neighboring provinces of Jiangsu and Zhejiang , as well as tourist bus routes along newly-constructed expressways, offer great convenience for regional travel.
International/Domestic Transportation
Aviation: Shanghai now possesses two international airports, i.e. Hongqiao International Airport in the west, which specializing in domestic flights; and Pudong International Airport on the seashore of East China Sea , which takes care of all international flights. Railway: There are around 100 special railway lines in Shanghai and it will establish a international multimode container network with express through train as the mainstay, linking Hongkong and Macao to the south, Russia and Europe to the north, connecting overseas to the east and reaching Mid-Asia to the west.
Port: Shanghai Port is the largest port in Mainland China , covering an area of 3,600 sq km. Shanghai has already established shipping business links with more than 1,100 ports in more than 200 countries and regions in the world. Shanghai Port now providing oceangoing lines, Coastal lines, Yangtze River lines and inland water transportation.
Urban Transportation
Shanghai Public Transportation Card: offers the convenient access to any public transportation, including Metro, Buses, Ferries, City Trams and Taxi. It is available at Banks, Bus Terminals, Metro Stations and most of convenient stores (RMB 30) and can be refilled at metro stations.
